About Medal no Tatsujin 2 – Atsumare! Go! Go! Sugoroku Sentai Don Ranger Five Arcade Machine

Medal no Tatsujin 2 Atsumare! Go! Go! Sugoroku Sentai Don Ranger Five Arcade Machine is a music based coin pusher game and was released in February 2007 as a sequel to the original.

Aside from a few new songs in Tatsujin Game, Medal 2 also introduced a bunch of new minigames and features to the original, including seasons of the year and Waru-Mekadon battles. Note that they are not the same as the Waru-Mekadon in Taiko DS2 (but were probably an inspiration). The basic rules remain the same.

New features

  • Omikuji-sho: Is basically a fortume teller's house. Five slots will shuffle and you stop them by rolling your dice to match one of the numbers on the five slots. You match it and it will stop spinning, then you get your fortune. Your fortune will determine your 'lucky partner' for the game.

  • 大吉: Gold Bell + 15 medals
  • 中吉:Silver Bell + 10 medals
  • 小吉:Bronze Bell + 5 medals
  • 吉:Bronze Bell
  • 末吉:No effect
  • 凶: 1 mold ball
  • 大凶:3 mold balls

Of course, the Gold Bell will increase your luck the most, and the 3 mold balls will decrease your luck the most. The luckier you are, the easier it is to get a golden ball in the spinning jackpot game.

  • 777 Jackpot: A new medal jackpot feature. Just walk a total of 777km in the game to get 50 medals.

  • Mimic Treasure Chest: A new medal jackpot feature, and takes a page out of Dragon Quest. Can you beat the fake treasure box? 30 medals if you can.

  • Taiko Castle: In addition to Taiko Island, there is now a Taiko Castle, and you get to it the same way too (Blue Mine/UFO). Like Taiko Island, it's a dice-rolling game to get medals, except much stricter. Roll '6' twice in a row to get a whopping 1000 medals. Anything else, no medals. Harsh.

  • Tatsujin 'Daruma-san ga Koron da': A new game to play using the Participation Fan, alongside Tatsujin Game/Race. This is a common playground game. A bunch of people will move towards the goal while a guard says 'Daruma-san ga Koron da' without making eye contact. As soon as the guard finishes the sentence, he turns around. If anyone is moving when the guard turns around, he loses. Simple.

The game also features Four new games in Medal no Tatsujin 2 based on seasonal change. There's one game for spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Spring: The Spring game involves picking a pot of flower seeds using a dice roll. You have a choice of morning glory, tulips, sunflowers, cosmos and roses. Each grows and flowers on a different season, and when you get to that season, you earn medals as soon as the flower blooms.

Summer: Watermelons fall all over stations, and this game starts when you come in contact with one. Break watermelons to get medals before time runs out. Easy!

Autumn: Yams fall over the stations, and going to one starts a yam-eating game for medals. Another simple one.

Winter: Within a limited time, roll dices to get snowman parts, four in all, to complete building the snowman on top of the hill!

Waru-Mekadon is the main new thing in Medal no Tatsujin 2, which explains why the Don-Ranger theme was used. The Waru-Mekadon are hatched from eggs and cause mischief like blocking entry to the goal station, cutting off paths, disabling events, taking medals and other items away or hitting players (lowering their movement speed to the very minimum).

Come in contact with one and you're taken into battle, and it involves dice rolls, as usual. You can battle alongside Taiko characters like Tetsuo, Hana and Wada-Inu.

There are five classes of Waru-Mekadon, each more powerful than the last. Beat a Waru-Mekadon and the next time one appears it will be the next evolved form. However, the last form, King Waru-Mekadon, cannot be battled unless you have 5 players.

New items include a Police Turtle that leads you straight to the Waru Mekadon on the map, and treasure chests (with a key) for medals.
