Big Buck World Championships 2015 Opens October 23rd
The Big Buck World Championships will start on October 23rd and continue into the 24th, with 64 competitors from across the US going to head-to-head at the Hard Rock Café in Chicago, Ill., for over $75,000 in prize money.
Following five months of qualifiers, which ended on September 27, the best virtual buck hunters are gearing up to play their best later this month. The competition was tough with over 6,450 unique players competing in this year's qualifiers, which more than quadrupled the 1,500 players who competed last year.
Jessica Petro, Social Media and PR coordinator for Play Mechanix, attributed this immense growth to the company's decision to lengthen the qualifying tournament from one month to five. She added, "Because we know people are busy and maybe couldn't make it to a machine once every month, we kept the May tournament, and those following it, open until the end of September.”
"Each tournament had a prize pool as well, so if you got first place each month, there was potentially more money you could win," Petro continued. "We also had a lot more time to promote the events, and there was a lot more time for people to play."
Sarah Spain, writer and personality for ESPN, will be hosting the World Championships for the second time. The event will also be featuring DJs from The Music Trust including DJ Impulse, DJ Dela Chapelle, and DJ Intel; Hotel Cass is offering discounted room rates for all attendees, as it is located three blocks from the venue; food will be supplied by sponsor Old Wisconsin; and drinks will be supplied by sponsor Moosehead Lager – players will really be partying up a storm at this year’s competition!
