Stern made two announcements recently. The first is the addition of LED lights to the Metallica PRO pinball machine (which will now be standard in all PRO, Limited Edition and Premium machines released by Stern) and the second is the welcoming of a new team member, Brian Schmidt.

Firstly, the next production of the Metallica PRO pinball machine has been upfitted with vivid, energy-efficient LED lighting. The addition of LEDs to Metallica Pro further enhances the already critically-acclaimed game experience with its notoriously fast tempos, aggressive audio tracks, and smooth ball flows. All future Stern Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition pinball games will have LED lighting.

“LED technology is a welcomed advancement in modernizing pinball. Commercial operators will benefit from improved reliability and earnings, while collectors will appreciate the brighter playfield and more vivid colors.” said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball.

LED standardization is the latest step in Stern’s ongoing program to modernize pinball while staying true to the game’s historic roots. The updated lighting system complements Stern’s recently updated modern metal and wood back box with decaled cabinet and speaker housing, now standard on all models. The Metallica Pro LED model is now shipping.

Secondly, the team at Stern have welcomed a new member - Brian Schmidt. Schmidt is a game audio industry pioneer and is joining Stern’s world-class pinball design team.

“Brian is a solid addition to our team. We’re thrilled to add his sound and audio design expertise to Stern Pinball machines,” said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball, Inc.

The 2008 recipient of the Game Audio Network’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Schmidt has been creating game music, sounds and cutting edge technology since 1987. His credit list comprises over 140 games and a client list including
Stern Pinball, Bungie, Zynga, Microsoft, Sony, Electronic Arts and many others. Brian has worked for top companies including Microsoft and Williams Electronic Games and is currently a video game industry consultant.

Schmidt created GameSoundCon, the industry’s sole conference dedicated to composing video game music and sound design. “I’ve always been a huge fan of Stern Pinball and have even had the chance to work with them as a client in the past, so I could not be happier to be joining them as a team member,” said Brian Schmidt. Schmidt received his master’s degree in computer applications in music and an undergraduate degree in music and computer science from Northwestern University.

Congratulations to Brian on his new job!
