A vertically scrolling shoot them up, where characters have super human powers that allow them to fly and wield destructive powers. Shiki roughly translated means the four seasons in English.
The player uses 4 buttons and a joystick to control the action. The various characters the player can choose from each have different powers. Which translates into varied shot powers and patterns. Which can be an advantage or disadvantage depends on the stage and enemies. As with most shoot them ups, the end of each stage is guarded by a area boss, a super powered enemy that is hard to destroy without good timing and strategy.
At the end of each stage the player is ranked up to the perfect rank of "S". Depending on time and damage taken, action points gained, score and if continues were used.
