Bandai Namco to open Japan's largest virtual reality centre

After launching its VR Zone: Project i Can initiative last year, and showing a strong line-up of virtual reality games at JAEPO this year, it was only a matter of time until Bandai Namco opened up a bigger VR space.Bandai Namco will open a large virtual reality entertainment centre in Tokyo’s bustling Shinjuku district.
The 3600 square metre centre wide range of content featuring popular animation and cartoon characters.
Inside VR Zone Shinjuku, to be operated by Bandai Namco Entertainment, visitors wearing special goggles will be able to view VR content on their headsets' screens, or enjoy interactive visual images projected onto walls and floors.
The concept is a virtual reality arcade.
The installation will only be temporary. The centre is expected to operate for up to two years until the Tokyo railway operator kicks off an urban renewal project in the area.
VR Zone Shinjuku will be managed by Bandai Namco arcade staff and offer food and drinks.
The installation is expected to attract a wide range of customers, from families to foreign tourists.
Fees and other details have yet to be determined.
Bandai Namco Entertainment operated VR Zone: Project i Can, Japan's first leisure facility specialising in VR content, in Tokyo's Odiba area between April and October in 2016.
Visitors were allowed to stay for up to 90 minutes at a time.
