Walt Disney World Removing Arcade Prizes From Resort
According to reports, Walt Disney World has started removing prize counters and prize machines from its resort hotels. Some believe this to be due to the 2013 changes in legislation to Florida laws concerning Internet cafes and gambling.

The laws around redemption, gambling and games of chance - the distinctions between these terms and affects it has on the public (particularly child exposure) - has been a hot topic in the US for quite some time, and came to a head last year with a number of legislation changes, including changes ro Florida's state law in regards to Internet cafes and gambling.

It found that many cafes were being used for illegal gambling purposes, so in this respect it appears to be quite a good thing to have changed the laws except for the fact that some are interpreting it to extend to arcades and redemption games, now including Disney World. This has been having quite a large affect on the overall industry, and particularly redemption arcade games in the US, and the amusement industry has been fighting reopen the discussion on the 2013 changes.

The prize counter at the All-Star Music is already gone, with redemption counters at the Contemporary, All-Star Sports, Pop Century and Art of Animation allegedly set to be removed as well. The Tomorrowland Arcade in the Magic Kingdom will close entirely oas of Feb. 8. Although some arcade will remain in the resorts, no longer will children and guests be able to play for prizes.

This is quite a big move by a big company, but the overall affect this will have on the US market is yet to be seen.
