Eidos Cleared in $5bn Law Suit

Families of the 13 victims of America's Columbine High School massacre brought the action, claiming video games caused the shooting by "making violence pleasurable and disconnected from reality".

Eidos makes action games such as the Final Fantasy series, Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage and Urban Chaos, and Tomb Raider, which was turned into a blockbuster movie. But because Final Fantasy 7, the game that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold owned when they killed 13 people in 1999 did not involve guns, Eidos is in the clear.

It was one of 25 rival games companies facing the writ, which still include AOL Time Warner, Paramount, Sega and Sony. But Colorado's chief judge, Lewis Babcock, ordered that the complaint against Eidos Inter- active be dismissed without prejudice.
