Japan's JAMMA 2005 Show Report

Japan's JAMMA 2005 Show was held from 1-3 September where both Sega and Namco presented a huge range of fresh games.

Sega's Lindbergh arcade system debuted at JAMMA, with a number of the company's new games running on this latest hardware. Sega's JAMMA 2005 product collection included;

  • House of the Dead 4 The latest version of this successful zombie game. It will run on the new Lindbergh board.

  • Afterburner Previously made for home console, this air combat game is set for arcade release.

  • Fist of the North Star (Hokutou no Ken) Sammy's high-resolution 2D fighting game received very good reviews at the show. This Atomiswave based game is now under Sega branding.

  • Power Smash 3 (Virtua Tennis 3) This latest edition in the Virtua Tennis series will feature real life pro players and more realistic graphics than its predecessors.

  • Virtua Fighter 5 Early details reveal new stages and two new characters.

  • Psy-Phi A futuristic fighting game on the Lindbergh system with a unique battling operation. Players control the game entirely through the touch screen monitor including their movement and attack options.

  • Sega Golf Club Version 2006: Next Tours The update features just a few slight changes to the original including two new courses and the option for players to choose the gender of their caddy.

  • The Quest of D Version 2.0 Extra features include two new character classes (Elf and Dwarf) and new environments (deserts and grass fields.)

  • Metal Slug 6 SNK Playmore's latest game was shown at the Sega booth running on the Atomiswave system. Metal Slug 6 boasts new visual effects and backgrounds, six selectable characters and the ability to hold and switch between weapons.
Namco officially announced Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection at JAMMA 2005 with its product line on display including;

  • Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection The game boasts two new characters, new stages and stages modified from the original Tekken 5 game.

  • Mario Kart Arcade: Grand Prix Players control their car with a steering wheel, and can take short jumps by tapping their brake while accelerating.

  • Druaga Online: The Story of Aon An online arcade Role Playing game where players select from one of four characters and work in a team to complete the set quests.

  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Bond of the Warfield (Kidou Senshi Gundam: Senjou no Kizuna) Mobile Suit Gundam will be published by Banpresto and distributed through Namco. This attraction-style pilot fighting game is linkable for up to sixteen players (eight players on each team.)
Other new products unveiled at this year's JAMMA Show included;

  • Super Dragon Ball Z (Chou Dragon Ball Z) An arcade version of the popular home console fighting game. The arcade edition features interactive stages allowing players to use rocks, trees, walls and buildings as shields. The game is developed by Craft and Meister and released by Banpresto.

  • War of the Grail Capcom's new action battle game.
