Sega Arcade Classic Shinobi Coming To The Silver Screen

It started with the Adam Sandler’s movie Pixels, then Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson jumped on board with Rampage, and now we hear that Sega’s arcade classic Shinobi is set to hit the silver screen!

Producer Marc Platt announced the plans to adapt the ninja game to film just over a week ago, and has specified he will be working alongside Adam Siegel and that Stories International will be the production company behind the film. Stories International is the production company and is a joint venture between SEGA Group and Hakuhodo DY Group.

“We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen,” Platt said. “We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for movie-going audiences.”

Shinobi was released in 1987 as a side-scrolling arcade game, featuring protagonist Joe Musashi, a ninja who must stop a criminal organisation called Zeed, that has been kidnapping children from Joe’s clan. The objective of the game is to infiltrate Zeed headquarters, free the hostages and defeat the Boss. The game includes five levels, which include 3-4 stages each and each stage has a boss that must be defeated. Along the way Joe must free hostages as he finds them.

There has been no start date given for production and there is no cast list of yet, but we will update this story as more information gets released.
