Sega, Namco & Sony to Distribute Online Games & More.

Japan news source The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Sega Corp. and Namco Ltd. & Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., will join forces to distribute games, movies and advertisements online.

The firms will link about 1,000 Sega and Namco arcades, and 7,000 Sony software retailers via a fiber-optic network by the end of this year, aiming to expand online games through these arcades and retailers. They also plan to set up kiosks in arcades and software stores where users can access the Internet to watch trial versions of games, advertisements and movies.

The alliance will begin offering services later this year and will be available nationwide by 2002. Game fans will be able to access the services at the game centers and software retailers.
