Terminator Salvation still going strong

Terminator Salvation, the arcade shooter launched into Europe in January 2010, has now sold into a total of 25 nations according to sales figures announced by UK and European distributor Brent Sales/Namco Europe. The figures, covering the period January to September 2010, put the game amongst the most successful video pieces marketed by the company this year.

The announcement comes as Brent/Namco unveils the latest (Standard) model in the range – a 32-inch LCD twin shooter - which complements the 42-inch deluxe version released earlier in the year.

John Brennan, Commercial Director at Brent Sales/Namco Europe, believes the success achieved by Terminator Salvation demonstrates the potential of marrying up a strong core game with a powerful licence. He explained: "Licences on their own are window dressing, but when a licence such as the Terminator sci-fi franchise is linked to a compelling game which has powerful play credentials it has a massive impact on the cash box, generating high earnings over a long-term period." The first European model, sited at the Number 10 inland bowling centre in Romford, Essex, still holds the distinction of being the number one video performer 11 months on.

"Licensed products win the all important battle for the first leisure coin, after that it's all about the game and earning repeat customers by delivering out of home play experiences. In the case of Terminator Salvation, the heavy-duty recoiling rifles and clip action reload amongst a host of other features has helped deliver a depth of realism unparalleled in any arcade shooter and enables the game to translate across cultures and consistently attract players."

A Superdeluxe model, boasting a 100-inch projector screen, is also due for imminent release.
