Fairfield, IA - January 4, 2001 - Gamers from all galaxies are invited to compete in Twin Galaxies' first World Championship for the PC. The Space Empires IV high score contest has begun, according to the gaming industry's Official Scorekeepers. In addition to being the first PC platform World Championship, the latest contest is also Twin Galaxies' first turn-based-strategy contest. Space Empires IV is the most recent "4X" (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) strategy game designed by Malfador Machinations and published by Shrapnel Games. The top five players in the world will share $400 in cash prizes. The first-place winner will receive $200 and be immortalized in the next edition of the Twin Galaxies "Official Video Game & Pinball Book Of World Records".
Twin Galaxies' newest high score championship competition is free to compete in, and will run through March 7th, 2001. "It was time for something new", said Walter Day, Chief Scorekeeper at Twin Galaxies. "We've done sports, classic games and first person shooters, and it is time to move into the future. Space and the mind are the two great frontiers, and nothing brings them together like a strategy simulation set in outer space. This is a thinking man's contest; agility and speed won't help as much as keen wits and a clear, well-executed plan."
