Konami Testing New Internet Game Site
Konami is in the process of testing it's internet game site, www.konamionline.com, which will offer initially 5 games where users are able to download software and play on their PC or consoles. It will be a members website (no fee) however once the full system is launched a fee will be charged for each game played.
Confidential Mission for Dreamcast
Sega representatives have confirmed plans to release Confidential Mission on Dreamcast later this year in Japan. The home version will have new features including agent training mode and two player partner mode.
PCCW Japan Reorganizes Game Division Operations
Pacific Century CyberWorks has announced plans to reorganize and refocus its game division, saving an estimated JPY1.2 billion (US$9.7 million) over the next 12 months.
The move comes in response to increasingly adverse economic conditions in the arcade game industry, it said in a statement.
It said the new strategy will revive some of the divisionfs business lines, will provide revenues of JPY3 billion (US$24 million), and deliver a profit of JPY20 million (US$162,000) for the game division in FY2001. Revived revenue streams will be reinvested in growth business areas such as online games.
PCCW Japan said it intends to close all amusement facilities in five locations in Tokyo on April 30, 2001.At the same time, the division is developing a new business plan for amusement facilities that will more effectively appeal to todays online entertainment consumers.
Capcom & Aruze Offer Dreamcast Games
During the recent Toyko Game Show, Capcom announced they will release on Dreamcast Kessen! and a network mahjong game codeveloped with Psikyo, Net Gimic Mahjong. The Mahjong game features popular characters from Psikyo's shooting series and Capcom's Street Fighter series.
SNK/Aruze also announced for Dreamcast Mark of Wolves with rumours that King of Fighters 2000, Metal Slug 3 and other popular SNK games to be released later this year.
