Amusement Trades Exhibitions (ATE) have been responsible for putting together an amusement industry golf tournament which raised nearly £25,000 ($US 35,000 / 42,000 euros) for charity. The money, a record sum for the event, will be distributed by BACTA, the trade association which represents the British coin-op industry.

Samantha Byrne, ATE's Special Events Manager who was responsible for the tournament, said: "It was a great spectacle which brought together many of the leading names in the British coin-op industry. The result was a hugely successful networking event; two days' competitive golf and a record sum raised for charitable causes."

Many companies and individuals contributed to the event, raising funds through sponsorship, monetary pledges, draws and auctions. The main sponsors involved in the 120 player strong tournament included Barcrest, Bell-Fruit Games, Crown Direct, Deith Leisure – Cirsa, Gamesman, Impulse, JPM, Kunick, Leisure Link, Mars Electronics, Maygay, Mazooma, Red Gaming and Vivid.

The overall winning team was specialist insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson, one of whose players – Chris Reed – also received the Stephen Whatmore Memorial Trophy for being the overall Individual Champion. Joan Gemson of ‘The Burdies' team was named Ladies Individual Champion and Jan van de Velde (Bell-Fruit Games team) won the Sportsman award.

ATEI 2002 takes place on 22, 23 and 24 January at London's Earls Court Exhibition Centre.
