Who is the best all-around arcade gamer on the classic gaming circuit??

The Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard wants to know and hopes to crown an "All-Star" classic gamer at the Classic Gaming Expo 2k1, on August 11-12, 2001 at Jackie Gaughan's Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But, Twin Galaxies doesn't want to find just any player; Twin Galaxies wants the best.

"We think we can identify some top gamers at this event," believes Walter Day, editor of Twin Galaxies' Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records, "because the Classic Gaming Expo is one of the bright lights on the growing classic gaming circuit. The CGE2k1 is luring back the arcade addicts of yesteryear, as well as drawing in newer, younger players who find the 'golden age' games a more challenging test of their gaming skills than today's titles. And," adds Day, "whoever wins this 'All-Star' contest will be considered gaming 'royalty,' and will be treated accordingly in the next edition of the record book."

With only one month remaining before the August 31st editorial deadline for the next edition of the record book, Twin Galaxies wants one last try at finding superstar classic gamers worthy of the highest honors. To crown such video game nobility, Twin Galaxies will be sponsoring the following contests:

1. Classic Arcade All-Star Championship

A six-game tournament requiring each contestant to log their highest score on each of the following six games from the 1980s: Bubbles, Krull, Dragon Spirit, Reactor, Mappy and Juno First. These games have been donated by "Blast from the Past," a Santa Maria, California-based classics game dealer who has supported the CGE with games for the last three years.

During the contest, each player's scores will be converted to percentages and then added together to create final standings. The top three winners will receive listings in the record book and awards certificates. A career biography for the top winner will be published in the record book, guaranteeing video game immortality.

2. Space Duel Doubles Championship

Two-man teams, working in tandem, will compete in a Space Duel Doubles Championship, with the highest combined score taking the winner's circle.

3. Decathlon Championship on the Atari 2600

Refereed by the legendary Todd (Mr. Activision) Rogers and Ron (Mr. Atari) Corcoran, Twin Galaxies' Worldwide Editor for Atari and Intellivision. Twin Galaxies will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place certificates for overall score for Activision's Decathlon. And, first place gets $50 in addition to the certificate.

4. Kaboom World Championship

Yes, a high-score championship on the legendary Atari 2600 title with 1st, 2nd & 3rd place certificates awarded for overall score. And, first place gets $50 in addition to the certificate. This event will be refereed by Brien King and Ron (Mr. Atari) Corcoran, Twin Galaxies' Worldwide Editor for Atari and Intellivision.

The top three champions for each contest will take home awards certificates as well as win listings in Twin Galaxies' forthcoming Book of Records.

The four contests will start on Saturday morning at 11:00 am and continue to 2:30 pm on Sunday, followed by an awards ceremony that honors the champions of each event. Times for individual events will be posted on location during the CGE2K1.

The CGE2K1 will be open Saturday 10:00 a.m.- 6:45 pm and Sunday 10:00 am - 4:00 p.m. Day-of-show admission is available at the CGE Registration Booth at a cost of $35 for the weekend. Single day admission is $20 for Saturday and $15 for Sunday.

The CGE2K1 is solely devoted to celebrating the history of video, arcade, and computer games and is a product of CGE Services, a Valley Stream, NY-based organization that can be reached at info@cgexpo.com. The URL is: www.cgexpo.com.
