The Dave & Buster's restaurant/arcade chain says its Honolulu opening set new company records for first weekend sales.
The outlet in Honolulu's Victoria Ward Centers, which uniquely in the chain has three levels and a rooftop lanai, opened Oct. 3.
"To set the all time opening weekend sales records for a store that is only 40,000 square feet is quite an accomplishment," says cofounder Dave Corriveau. "Taking into account the current temporary softness of the Hawaiian tourist market makes this sales record amazing."
The Honolulu grand opening had more than 2,000 attendees and raised $25,000 for the Honolulu Rotary Club.
Dave & Buster's is sometimes described as a Chuck E. Cheese for adults -- not so much a restaurant chain as a chain of places to hold parties. New ones also opened this year in Miami and Dallas. Cleveland gets one before year's end and four more openings are planned for next year. The chain was founded in 1982 and now has 30 locations.
