Using the latest in computer graphics morphing technology, "Dr. Face" photographs customers' faces, modifies or edits them appropriately, then seamlessly inserts the altered image into colorful backgrounds, including a body selected by the customer. Digital alterations include changing both the customer's flesh tones and hairline, if needed, to match the chosen body.

"Dr. Face" can create group shots by combining up to five faces in a single image; each portrait is shot individually and then combined into the final postcard montage. This permits customers to portray themselves, for example, as mother and child, bride and groom, or various other themed combinations.

"Dr. Face" vends full color 4x6" postcards of the resulting photomontage. The reverse side includes marked areas for stamp, destination address, and written message. Postcards are vended approximately 25 seconds after the customer's photo is taken. "Dr. Face" is run via simple button control and equipped with a dollar bill acceptor; the suggested vend price for a single postcard is $3 (or $5 in tourist areas). For an additional price, customers can choose single or multiple prints (1, 5, 10, or 20) of the same image.

An update-capable software library is a significant feature that makes "Dr. Face" versatile and ensures that the product will remain fresh and appealing over time. At present, operators may choose from a current library of 3 CD-ROMs, each containing an array of backgrounds and bodies for customers to choose from. Each CD-ROM offers approximately 40 selections including swimsuit models, bodybuilders, street people, police officer, wedding couple in gown and tux, tribal people, mother and child, matador, soldiers, various ethnic and national types including a few period costumes.

Apple Industries will make additional CD-ROMs available with more background and body choices in the months to come. In addition, customization is available for orders in quantity. "Thanks to the optional capability to feature local settings or costumes, as well as the fact that the final image is printed on a postcard, ‘Dr. Face' is ideal for tourist locations and promotions," said Director of Sales Tim Jackson.

As the exclusive North American marketing representative for "Dr. Face," Apple Industries forecast widespread popularity for the product and says that forecast is
now proving true. "Already a great success in Europe, ‘Dr. Face' was identified by many American operators and distributors as one of the clear hits of the recent AMOA show," Director of Sales Tim Jackson stated. "We have taken substantial orders for ‘Dr. Face' and, as we have done with this type of product in the past, we expect to achieve significant market placements with key national and regional chain accounts. As always, operator members of Apple's national operators group will share in this opportunity."

Featuring eye-catching, full color graphics including oversized photos on the side panels, "Dr. Face" packs its unique features into a space-saving wooden cabinet. Dimensions are approximately 24" wide x 43" deep x 73" high. Since "Dr. Face" does not need a curtain backdrop, it requires less space than comparable photo booths. "Dr. Face" includes a dye sublimation printer that fuses gelatin-based dye directly to the postcard paper in a four color process. This means there are no messy ink cartridges for operators to refill, and no ink to spill or stain.
