UK Gambling Review on Agenda After Local MP Visits Maygay HG
Earlier this week, the Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton North East, Ken Purchase, visited the headquarters of Maygay Machines and discussed the gambling review.
A couple of years have passed since Mr Purchase's last visit, when he presented the company's Investors in People (IIP) Award, and he appeared extremely impressed both by the newly expanded production facilities and plans for further expansion and diversification. Having been born and brought up little more than a mile away from Maygay House, Mr. Purchase was happy to chat with fellow locals on the shop floor.
Mr. Purchase was also happy to hear the company's views on the Government's Gambling Review Report, which intends to lead to a re-write of the 1968 Gaming Act. Proposals that would lead to the removal of jackpot machines from private members' clubs, and those that would significantly reduce the numbers of machines in public houses, are of particular interest to the MP, and he is very strongly opposed to both.
Maygay's Executive Chairman, Roy Howell, who has been with the Wolverhampton based company for 32 years, was delighted by his MP's strong stance: "Ken is an avid supporter of community clubs and pubs, which are the epicentre of social life for so many of his own constituents and people nationwide. He is also the strongest possible champion for employment opportunity within Wolverhampton. I was delighted to learn that Ken has already written to every club in the constituency advising them of this very serious threat and assuring them of his support in opposition to these ridiculous proposals. It was also encouraging to note that his friend and colleague Dennis Turner, a fellow Wolverhampton MP, is Treasurer of the Parliamentary Non-Profit Making Clubs Association, a body that represents more than 300 MP's."
The visit of Mr. Purchase, who is extremely popular locally, was enthusiastically received by all the staff at Maygay, and his support for the company and the industry in which it operates is hugely and genuinely appreciated.
