Initial D 4 sees the popular driving series move into the digital high definition era. The game runs on the Lindbergh hardware system, with the cabinet featuring a 32 inch widescreen LCD panel running at WXGA resolution (1360 x 768). The game also uses a newly designed steering wheel based on real racing models.
A new Initial D 4 License Card is available(IC card with a printing function) which can store player's profile, garage, racing recored and time attack play data. Players can also customise their character, which can then be printed onto their own License Card.
Players can choose between 3 different modes of play - Legend of the Streets, Time Attack, and In-Store Battle.
There are new locations and new car choices available, including the Impreza WRX STI and the Lancer Evolution IX GSR.
