Taiko no Tatsujin 2012 Update Arcade Machine was an update of the 2011 HD release from the music and rhythm series using the same original title and included hardware and software updates!
This is a massive update for Taiko no Tatsujin 2011 which is unlike any other software patch Namco have released for thes series so far. The cabinet has been revised yet again with completely new features, such as the small camera mounted on the top of the arcade screen. This allows for some fun picture moments before the actual game begins, and falls in line with several other arcade games Namco have made before. The firmware version starts from 0.12 (5.00 if the demo is counted) and is a continuation of the previous line of firmware updates.
The update also made changes to the online infrastructure set up last year. Donder Hiroba gets a makeover and has more new exciting features like an expanded friends list, more costumes, a title system introduced via patch to the previous Taiko arcade (which is also expanded on), tournament participation and score records, and a reset of the Don Point system to zero - meaning a whole new set of unlockable gifts. All old Don Point unlockable songs are now available to play by default, meaning anyone without Banapassports have access to them.
The old gifts remain for Banapassport holders and can be unlocked by other means for new players, however players without the passport will still be unable to play the secret songs from the old version.
A monthly set of achievements are set, called Don Chare (ドンチャレ, short for Don Challenge) and this is yet another one of Namco's many different ways for players to unlock new stuff on this arcade Taiko. Scores obtained on the last version are deleted prior to this update, and more adjustments to gameplay and difficulty ratings are promised.
Contains all songs from the 2011 version while adding even more, this is the first Taiko version to break 200 songs on its songlist from the first day onwards, with a starting point of 207 songs and a grand total of 248.
