Sega's Debt Downgraded

Sega's long-term debt rating was lowered by two grades from BBB-minus to BB by the rating agency Japan Rating Investment Information Inc. on July 21. Sega got a capital injection of over Yen 100 billion earlier this year but according to the ratings agency, Sega's financial position remains very weak.

With the Japanese game software market very sluggish, the rating agency believes that Sega will have to sacrifice profit margins in a bid to expand sales of its struggling Dreamcast game console.
