Tekken 7 Officially Reveals New Character Gigas; Possible Cancellation of US Madcatz Events
Tekken 7 has officially released a new character called Gigas today (28th April in the US), however the US may have to wait to play Gigas due to possible cancellation of upcoming Madcatz events.
Gigas was first seen as an unnamed rendering, unveiled at the same time as Jozie Rizal and the new designs for Devil Jin and Jin Kazama. Not only was Gigas unnamed at this stage, but popular speculation suggested he may be a new costume design rather than a character in his own right.
The character update was announced via CAPCOM TV's niconico stream, although little else at this stage is known about the character. His nationality is listed as 'DATA DELETED' and his fighting style is 'DESTRUCTIVE IMPULSE'.
It'll be interesting to see what backstory this character has and what his purpose is, and it also seems like he would be a great starting character for new players who are not familiar with different fighting styles.
However, excitement over the character in the US is somewhat dulled over the news of a break-in to Mark Julio's car. Mark Julio is the Community and Sponsorship Manager for Madcatz - the company that has organized Tekken 7 events all across the US and was integral in bringing the game to North America.
As mentioned by Julio himself on Twitter, his car was broken into. The culprits took not only personal belongings and work-related items, but they also grabbed the keys to Tekken 7.
Julio has mentioned that some of the stolen items have shown up on Craiglist and has sent an apology tweet to Game Director Katsuhiro Harada. Trying to look on the bright side, he explained to Harada that the arcade boards are safe and requested new keys be sent. However, as Harada explains, new keys won't work with the current boards and explained that they will need to be replaced as well. He also expressed that they were more concerned for Julio's safety and that he was lucky to be safe.
Due to this unforseen and unfortunate circumstance, upcoming events in the US may be skipped. The Seattle Police Department is reportedly on the case.
