History of Dave & Buster's
D&B is a famous restaurant chain in the US. It combines food and entertainment to create an easygoing, fun location for consumers. The name, "Dave & Buster's" came from the combination of its two founders' names, Dave and Buster. In the late 1970s, a couple of young men in Little Rock, Arkansas, operated establishments that, while side by side in location, were very different in concept. Situated in the classic setting of the Missouri Pacific Train Station, both enjoyed rewardingly brisk trade. The casually elegant style and warm, historic ambience of "Buster's" restaurant made it a favorite watering hole and eatery among the locals. Meanwhile, next door, Dave ran a place called "Slick Willy's World of Entertainment," offering outrageous fun and games for big people with a slightly more limited menu consisting mainly of thing you could eat with your hands, like hot dogs and popcorn. Both establishments enjoyed bustling business. Dave and Buster soon discovered that they had spawned a unique symbolic relationship. Patrons who frequented one establishment would more than likely go to the other. As this pattern became obvious to Dave and Buster, a new idea began to form. What would happen if they put both establishments under one roof? How big could they make it? Where would they build it? After a year or so of scratching out a rough plan, Dave and Buster gathered a few years' hard-earned dollars and a few close friends' investment, and went in search of the right location to begin building their dream.
The first location opened in Dallas in 1982
The very first "Dave & Buster's" opened its doors in Dallas, Texas, in 1982. Its pioneering idea of combining food and high tech games has won locals' support ever since. After six years, a second Dallas location was opened in 1988. From 1991 to 1997, D&B opened locations across the country in such places as Detroit, Denver, Columbus, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Florida's Hollywood.
In 1997, D&B crossed the Atlantic into Europe. Its first overseas location opened in Birmingham, England. This combination of food and fun was well received by the locals, so next year, in 1998 D&B's second European location was opened in Bristol, England.
Asia's first D&B in Taiwan
D&B has been successful in the US and expanded to become an extremely famous restaurant chain. In 1995, it began trading on the Nasdaq national market under the ticker symbol "D&B". Later in 1999, it became a proud member of the New York Stock Exchange.
B&B grew from being a single restaurant into a national restaurant chain bringing a windfall of profit to Dave and Buster. Based on the motto, "there's no place quite like it", this American-style food and entertainment entity crossed borders and entered Europe's England. D&B is now extending into Asia Pacific. In 1999, Taiwan became D&B's first base in the Asia Pacific region.
