Home Console Market Showing Strong Growth in Britain
The British home console market saw large increases in grwoth during 2000, with more than 39.5 million games and software items sold. This equates to a 16% increase over 1999 figures and 32% percent increase on 1998 sales, according to details released by The European Leisure Software Publishers Association and research group, ChartTrack.

The increase has not been reflected in monetary terms with sales totalling only 2% growth over 1999 values. Over the past two years retail prices have fallen with the average price of CD-ROM games now approximately £4 cheaper than they were in 1998.

The biggest increase was realised by Nintendo with their GameBoy machine seeing an increase of 160% over 1999 figures, largely attributed to the success of the Pokemon series.

Industry analysts are foreseeing another lucrative year ahead for the home market with the release of the PlayStation 2 console and the introduction of the Microsoft X-Box console.
