Post show statistics released by organisers of ATEI, Euroshow and ICE reveal that more buyers attended the 2001 event than at any other time in the exhibition's history. The headline figures show that a total of 23,121 visitors attended the annual three day event, a 20.6% increase on the figures for.The number of industry professionals from outside the United Kingdom rose to an all time high of 9,179, 40.7% of the total audience. This represents a year-on-year increase of 29.7% and a 12.7% improvement on the previous best of 8,147 recorded in 1999.

The analysis of represented nations illustrates the global appeal of the London shows, with the spread of countries stretching from San Marino to Senegal, Namibia to New Zealand, Israel to India and Germany to Grenada.

London's popularity with Spanish visitors was once again evident. Buyers from Spain topped the league table of non-UK attendees with 823, a 12.1% increase on 2000. The Netherlands was second with 797, an increase of 30.7%, followed by France with 790 (+87.6%). Italy was in fourth place with 770 buyers (+28.1%) followed by Germany with 664 (+82.9%) and the USA with 533 (+21.4%). No fewer than 22 nations were represented by 100 or more visitors of which 11 had more than 200 and six in excess of 500. Of the top 20 represented nations, just Norway registered a year-on-year decrease in attendance.

London exhibitors benefited from substantial increases in visitors from Japan (+110% to 84), Finland (+85% to 185), Canada (+74% to 73), Czech Republic (+50% to 174) and Slovenia (+42% to 111).

Commenting on the statistics, ATE chief executive Peter Rusbridge said: "We are all delighted by these figures, which await independent verification by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

"What makes these record attendance figures even more encouraging is that they have been achieved in the face of difficult trading conditions.

"The most significant feature of the visitor breakdown is the size of our international audience, which now stands at an amazing 40% of the total show attendance. The spread of visitors which encompassed 115 countries confirmed our status as the most international exhibition serving the coin-op, gaming and parks sectors."
