Midway Moves its Focus to Next Generation Platforms
Midway plans to improve on recent poor results with new software on new generation platforms, whilst moving away from arcade, Nintendo 64 and Playstation I.

The company confirmed that it has over 40 games in development for Playstation II, Nintendo Cube and Microsoft XBox. Games will include league licensed products, extreme sports, as well as driving, fighting, role playing and adventure. It has been argued that Midway is in a transitional period as it moves its development resources from the other platforms into next generation and is expecting to show strong returns once more consoles are released into the market.

Coin-operated video game revenues in the December 31, 2000 quarter decreased 37% with Midway only releasing one new coin-op product, Arctic Thunder. In the coming quarter, Midway will release CART Fury and an enhanced version of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for the Sony PlayStation 2. It additionally plans to release a new arcade driving game titled Hot-Rod Rebels.
