Malaysian Groups Now Operating Mobile Video Arcades
As reported by The Star, In an attempt to escape detection, syndicates behind the illegal gambling machines have now gone mobile and work out of vans. Making sure they are still in business, they are supplying vans to operators of video arcades who were put out of business as a result of the continuous raids, said state chairman for local government Datuk Mohamad Mokhtar Ahmad Dahlan yesterday.

"Mobile video arcades are now operating out of vans in Selangor, especially in Kajang, Ampang Jaya and Selayang.

"According to police sources and public information we have found that the operators of illegal gambling machines are operating in certain neighbourhoods in the wee hours of the morning.

"Selangor police are aware of the situation and are monitoring the situation and we expect these operators to be nabbed within weeks,'' he said.

Earlier Mohamad conducted a suprise check on several shoplots along Jalan Sungai Bertek, Jalan Yadi in Teluk Pulai and Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad 36 in Port Klang to ensure that no more video arcades were operating.

In yesterday's check only one shoplot along Jalan Sungai Bertek had 25 gambling machine consoles but there were no chips. The machines were all seized.

Klang Municipal Council deputy enforcement officer Ibrahim Bidin led a team of 30 officers in the surprise check.
