As reports on Motorola's website, these new multiple communication phones will feature mobile computing capabilities to allow users to load applications, such as games, to their phones. The agreement anticipates the introduction of Motorola's new application-upgradeable handsets, which are expected to be available in the first half of 2001 through iDEN® network operators including Nextel Communications and Southern LINC in the United States and Clearnet Communications in Canada. The phone's high-resolution display and graphics capabilities are designed to enhance the gaming experience.
The first of these phones will ship with one pre-installed Sega game, according to the terms of the agreement. The puzzle game, Borkov, challenges users to remove blocks in a matrix to match a changing pattern. The game features high-resolution graphics to cheer and prompt player moves. Additional games will be available for users to download from the Internet.
